The Boom
What's better than brunch with your girl friends? Brunch at a gay bar with your girl friends watching a drag show and drinking mimosas!!! Epic. Time.
The Boom is a Dinner Theater / Show Bar tucked away in Oklahoma City's 39th District. Even though it's a restaurant and a bar, you still have to be 21 to enter. Every Sunday, The Boom has Sunday Gospel Brunch. Let me tell you, they pack the house with this. It's so popular, in fact, that they have 2 back-to-back shows! Kitty and Norma are two Church Choir members who sing, dance, and keep you laughing for a full hour. They interact with the audience, celebrate birthdays, and even do some sing-a-longs. This is an Adult-Themed show, so if you don't have a sense of humor or are easily offended, you shouldn't go...or maybe you should!!
I have been to dinner theaters before and the food is always questionable. I honestly wasn't expecting much on the food-end of this adventure. All I have ever heard about was how fantastic The Sunday Gospel Brunch shows were. At most, I was expecting something I could get at IHOP, just based on different dinner theaters I had been to at other places. I was pleasantly proven wrong. WAY wrong. I went "safe" with the French Toast Plate. The chefs at The Boom made some of the best French Toast I have ever had. Imagine this: Pillowy soft toast with a light crisp crust from the batter. Hot off the griddle with melty butter and powdery sugar. Warm maple syrup lusciously gliding over the surface, making the experience even more sinful. All snuggled up with light and fluffy scrambled eggs and your choice of meat. I chose bacon because bacon is the best. Period.

I didn't get a picture of the Quiche, but I did try it. I am getting it next time as it was exquisite. Also, they have delicious Mimosas! You can get them by the glass or by the pitcher. AND there is a build-your-own Bloody Mary Bar!
Overall, my experience was great. I believe most everyone had a great time at the show as well. There were 10 of us and that made a great party.
A Few Tips:
- Make reservations. They fill up fast. There is a $5 cover charge that is added onto your bill at the end. If you are in a group with more than 6, they hold your reservation with a credit card. Your card will be charged $10/ person who no-shows the day of the show. This is because Brunch is their bread and butter. They want to fill the seats with paying customers and if you have lots of people no-show, then they will charge a fee...just like the DR when you don't cancel 24 hours prior.
- Get there early. They fill up! It's a little confining depending on where you are sitting. You want to give the server plenty of time to get your drinks and food orders, so you have lots of time to enjoy your meal, visit, and toss back some mimosas before the show begins.
- Bring some 1's! They come out into the audience a few times and perform. you want to be able to give them a fun little tip.
- If you don't have a sense of humor, don't go. This is an Adult-themed show filled with sex jokes and peppered with cuss words. You know, like a stand-up comedy club. Expect to get heckled and picked on by the cast, but in a fun way!!!
