Brunch Review: Social Deck and Dining, OKC

Frosty February mornings are meant for two things: Staying in bed and indulging in brunch.  Normally, I have no problems hitting the snooze button on my alarm on mornings like this, but for some crazy reason, I was awake early. I guess I was overcome with excitement on my brunch reservation at Social.

Social Deck + Dining is located on the edge of the Uptown 23rd District, just east of Pennsylvania Avenue. I auto-pilot past their establishment every morning on the way to work. Intrigued, I have watched their transformation from the former restaurant to the new hip establishment it is now. Like the food fan-girl I am, I stalk them on Instagram and have been salivating at their photos.  So, as we all know, the one thing that will make me leap out of bed is the promise of deliciousness.

Since i pre-planned this brunching event, I went on their website and booked my reservation, because no one wants to deal with a hangry Danna.  As I trotted to the entrance, an employee opened the door, smiling a cheerful welcome and escorting me inside and to my table. Ambiance is bright, cheerful, and clean.  As my eyes wondered to the patio, I imagined some bad decisions being made from happy hour moments when the weather gets nicer.

While I awaited my friend, I ordered a Brunch Punch to start the morning off right. This signature cocktail has rum and some special secret juices that will perk up your taste buds. It's light, refreshing, and fills me with the warm, relaxing happiness that only rum can promise.  My friend ordered the Social Coffee, a hot, rich coffee topped with heavy cream and whipped cream.

To start, we ordered a Wild Blueberry Cake doughnut to split.  This is a morning must! Some cake doughnuts are heavy, but this one is light and airy with the perfect amount of crisp on the edges, coated in a powder-sugar glaze.  Not too sweet, but definitely addict-able.

When I go to new places, I like to order what is most popular or their signature dishes. The server recommended the Baked Eggs, Corned Beef Hash, and Chilequiles.  I had my mouth set on the Eggs Benny, but entrusted my taste buds to this Social expert.  My friend had the Baked Eggs and I devoured the Corned Beef Hash.

Corned Beef Hash

Until today, I was a Corned Beef Hash virgin.  Today's experiment has me longing for more.  Crispy Yukon gold potatoes, sweet potatoes, and caramelized onions were topped with savory, tender chunks of corned beef meats, two sunny-side-up eggs, mustard seed, and french-fried onions.  You get the perfect balance of the rich, savory meat, creamy egg, succulent sweets of the potato, and the crispy punch of the french-fried onion.

Baked Eggs

My awesome friend let me steal a bite of her Baked Eggs.  This dish was big enough for two people to share, in my opinion.  Three large Lamb meaty balls atop a spicy roma tomato sauce and sunny-side eggs, served with warm pita bread.  Getting that perfect bite of lamb meatball, coated in the spicy tomato sauce and egg was heaven.  Scoop it all up in a fluffy pita triangle for extra mouthgasmness.

You would think that we would need a wheel chair to take us to our car after that meal, but we saved room for desert!! My advice:  Never leave this place without trying the Dark Chocolate pie.  Rich creamy dark-chocolate pie topped with whipped cream and a raspberry drizzle. This light and decadent pie was like silk on the palette and will haunt me for the rest of the week.

If you plan on going to dine here, the parking is a little tricky. There are only a few designated spots, so you will more than likely have to park along the street.  I always recommend making reservations at any place that takes them.  Every member of the staff was warm, friendly, and attentive.  One thing that I love is that on the back of their menu, they recognize local organizations that they support, that way you can support them too.  I can't wait to go back for dinner and try another cocktail! Check out their menu and make your reservation.

Have you been to Social Deck + Dining?  What were your favorite things?  If you haven't been, I hope you add this into your dining rotation!

Until next time,

~Danna
